About Agnese Morganti
Agnese Morganti is a documentary photographer based in Prato, Italy. She graduated from Libera Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence with a B.A. in Photography and from the University of Westminster in London, where she attended the MA Photojournalism course, in 2010.
She started engaging with the Chinese community in Prato in 2011, when she became a staff photographer for ITS China, a Chinese-Italian magazine published in Florence and distributed nationwide. This role allowed her to come in direct contact with the local Chinese community, one of the largest and most controversial Chinese settlements in Italy. This unprecedented access also marked the start of her long-term documentary work about the everyday life of the community.
In 2013 she was selected as one of ten emerging Italian photographers to attend FRESH!, a year-long mentorship programme that supported the completion of documentary projects about contemporary Italy. Her ongoing documentary work about the the Chinese community in Italy has been published in Italian magazines such as Its China, A, Terre di Mezzo, L’Espresso and IoDonna and exhibited at 10b Photography gallery in Rome.
Agnese currently lives and works in Chinatown, Prato. Her work has recently been displayed internationally as part of the “On The Go” exhibition promoted by the Asia-Europe Foundation, and has been published in magazines and photography platforms worldwide. In 2015 her reportage “Made in Italy” was shortlisted for two of Italy’s major photographic awards, the Premio Marco Pesaresi and the Circuito Portfolio Italia.
