An award winning visual artist, Alan Hantz is a member of Professional Photographers of America, Portrait Masters, Professional Photographers of North Carolina and The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. His work has been shown at the Blowers Gallery (UNC-Asheville), the Castanea Building (Asheville, NC), The Latrobe Art Center (Latrobe, PA), The Modern Visual Arts Gallery (Bethlehem, PA), Virginia Beach Art Center (VA Beach, VA) and The Artists Gallery (Los Angeles, CA). Hantz is Professor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina Asheville where he taught communication law, photojournalism, media aesthetics, and humanities.
