Born and raised in the south side of Chicago, Alan Received a BFA in painting and an MFA in film and photography from the Art Institute of Chicago.
He has taught photography and filmmaking and the history of photography at University of Illinois, Chgo, Loyola Univ. Chgo, & Columbia college, among others colleges in the Chicago area. He is retired as Executive Director of the Evanston Art Center. Alan has exhibited my work throughout the US and Mexico, most recently in a 3-person exhibit, "The Portal Reframed" at Leslie Wolf gallery, Chicago in May 2021.
Alan lives in Evanston, IL with his wife, an acclaimed author and journalist.
