About Alison OBrien

My name is Alison O’Brien, and I’m a photographer based in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. My work is the result of a life-long fascination with the connection that exists between humans and animals. Using familiar objects and surroundings to establish a context, I collaborate with dogs to create photographs that test and expand how others see the emotional intelligence of animals. Humor is frequently used to illustrate our similarities; the subtle eye movements, a sly grin or a furrowed brow. Also essential to my work is a respect and appreciation for animals. My photographs are the result of a relationship built on trust, patience, affection and positive reinforcement.

Most of my ideas result from past experiences as well as direct observation of my dogs. With their intelligence, playfulness and sense of whimsy I can imagine them in a variety of situations. From these essential elements and a few special treats, our collaborative works evolve.

My images are photographed using a DSLR camera. The scenes are created in a studio using real props. Photoshop is used minimally for touchup as needed.
