Alison Turner Long Beach, CA, United States
After several years of working in Advertising Sales, I gave up the “security” of my job to live on the road with my dog. What started as an escape from the corporate world has turned into a new way of life. 2014 marks my sixth year on the road, wandering around and taking photographs of the people and places I come across by chance.
In 2013, I wanted to get more personal in my work so instead of photographing strangers, I started taking intimate portraits of my friends. The more friends I photographed, the more I realized that their expressions and body language was a direct reflection of how I feel inside. What started as a simple project, resulted in something much more personal and complex. "Reflected Identities" is the result of these portraits.
I have been exhibited widely including the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Center for Fine Art Photography, The Art of Photography Show, Photo Los Angeles, Photo Center NW, Seities Gallery, Onward Compé, Center for Photographic Arts, among others. I was also selected as a finalist for Critical Mass in 2013.
My work has been published in several magazines including Black and White Magazine, European Photography Magazine, Popular Photography, PDN’s Emerging Photographer, Square Magazine, Musée Magazine, Seities Magazine, F Stop Magazine, F8 Magazine, and fototazo. I have won several awards for my images including the Grand Prize award at the Palm Springs Photo Festival slideshow competition and first Place in PDN’s “Go Indie” competition.
I continue to wander the country in my van with my dog, Max.
