Graduated in Economics (Unicamp, 1990), Ana Paula Baccan had an exten- sive career of 15+years in Investment Banking. Photography came in her life early as a form of collecting daily’s memories, travel logs and glimpses from work to-and-fro. She belongs to a generation of Brazilians that lived through the spread of the camera and a wider access to photographic registry, hence was able to develop a more intimate relationship with its existence in several levels of its uses. Taking pictures and being in pictures became more usual than it had been for previous generations, and this helped in having it as a form of expression close by, despite not being a profession. The search for a better understanding of the processes involved
in ‘the pictures that we see’ drove her to begin technical training at Escola de Artes e Design – Arquitec (Campinas, 2001), where she was introduced to the full whole process of the photographical end-product, from the techniques prior to shooting, going through the development of the film and enlargement of the negative, understanding the photographic creation as a result of all those steps altogether. Passionate about the alchemy of film development and manual enlargement, develops most of her work using analog techniques, backed by the attentive eyes of Rosangela Andrade (Laboratório Imágicas). Since 2017 participates in study groups focused on signature photography as an artistic expression, coordinated by Marcelo Greco. Partook in collective expos and published her first book in December 2022 called [Quimera], which surrounds the subject of revisiting childhood explorations on adulthood, editing the experiences with the camera shots.
