My formal training took place at the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Photojournalism and a Master of Science in Printing Technology. At RIT, I specialized in color science, digital image capture and photo printing techniques during the early 1990s when the industry was transitioning from analog to digital technologies. This positioned me to take advantage of the evolving imaging technologies that I now use to bring a new dimension to everyday objects. I renewed my passion for photography several years ago while coping with debilitating back pain. Photography has played a transformative role in my healing. By exploring what is close and accessible, the act of photographing has helped quiet pain and frustration. In addition, practicing mindfulness has enabled focusing through the fog of disability, enhanced the satisfaction of observation, and has led to new critical awareness.
