About Arek Rataj
Arek Rataj (b. 1983) is an independent photographer and university lecturer based in Poland. He is a holder of Master’s Degree in Journalism and Social Communication.
In 2019, he lectured Visual Communication at Jianghan University in Wuhan and photographed daily life in the center of an unprecedented outbreak of coronavirus disease. After imposing a lockdown on 23 January, he collaborated with the Associated Press.
On February 2, he was evacuated from Wuhan and put under quarantine for 17 days in a military hospital in Poland. He tested negative for COVID-19.
On February 25, continuing his documentation, he traveled to Lombardy to witness how Italy became the epicenter for coronavirus in Europe.
