About Arek Rataj
Arek Rataj (b. 1983) is an independent photographer, journalist, and educator.
He lectured Visual Communication at Jianghan University in Wuhan and witnessed the lockdown of 11 million people, which is believed to be without precedent in public health history.
After Wuhan's shutdown on 23 January, he collaborated with the Associated Press and photographed daily life at the dawn of the new COVID-19 pandemic.
On February 1, he signed up for evacuation from China to Europe. The evacuation lasted roughly 40 hours and turned out to be a complex and successful endeavor. Different European nationals flew to different European countries. All evacuees started undergoing quarantine. Arek's was in the military hospital in Poland.
