Asako Shimizu was born in 1969 and currently resides and works in Tokyo,Japan. She started her career at a Japanese publishing company called “Magazine House” after graduating at Nihon University College of Arts, Department of Photography in 1993. She was a staff photographer in creative magazines, taking various portrait, cooking, travel, beauty and cosmetic and other photos.At the same time,she pushed her own creative path in Art Photography. In 2007, the series of “On Her Skin” received an award from New Cosmos Photography sponsored by Canon. It was handpicked by judge Mr. Nanjo Fumio who is the chief director of Mori Museum. From then on, she began her career as a freelance photographer. Her works are mainly scenery and landscape that are related to human activity. She is interested in the idea of the Asian philosophical viewpoint that “all things on earth have a spirit”. Thus, her photographic explorations often capture the moment in between the figurative and the abstract, which is the feeling that each individual in the universe is a being in its own right.She had two exhibitions in Paris entitled, The Series of “Storyteller" in 2015 and “On her Skin, in " 2013 both held at the NextLevel Gallery.The others were 'Finding You There” in Sony Imaging Gallery at Ginza, Tokyo in the year 2014 and On Her Skin” / “Infinity” series at WADAGAROU, Tokyo in 2009. Her group exhibitions were “Regards de femmes” at Maison Folie, Mons Belgium in 2016 and “「Another Room」" at IMA CONCEPT STORE Tokyo in 2015. As part of a press release project, she had Perrir-Jouet ×Asako Shimizu 2015 / Projection Mapping of Belle Epoque Edition Première in Andaz Tokyo.
