Carisa Mitchell graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2009 with a BFA in Photography. Carisa has exhibited in the US and abroad including shows at Detroit Center for Contemporary Photography in Detroit, MI, the SACI Gallery in Florence, Italy as well as ARC Gallery and Roman Susan Gallery in Chicago, IL. Her work has been published online with F- stop Magazine as well as Muzzle Magazine. She has received a teaching assistant award with Studio Art Centers International - SACI in Florence, Italy (2009-2010) and was an artist-in-residence at Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, IL (2011-2012).
Her work embraces themes from family, memory and remembrance that crosses the line between fine arts and documentary photography; believing a photograph can explore many aspects of a story yet there is a lot that is left untold.
