“Photography for me is about connecting with people and exchanging experiences through chance social encounters. The 'Portraits of Margate' project keeps me actively aware, constantly seeking out people who catch my eye or imagination. I love the unpredictable nature of the project, never knowing who you might meet from day to day.”
I am a professional photographer and enthusiastic photography teacher. I have taught photography since 2006 at a variety of schools and colleges in London, Hampshire and Kent. Previous to teaching photography I was a professional photographer for The Tate Gallery for 4.5 years.
Since 2012 I have photographed strangers on and off through my daily travels http://portraitofastranger.tumblr.com
My Portraits of Margate started 2017 developed from my strangers project I wanted to focus on one area to capture the spirit of the local community. I view this as a long term project which reveals the aspirations of individuals and Margate’s significance to them.
