I am an amateur photographer of 66 with no formal training. For most of my life I have had a passion for foreign travel and photography, particularly portraiture, and my greatest joy is exploring the backstreets of unknown cities in unknown lands, entering into conversation with people I come across and being allowed to take photographs of them in their environment - so familiar to them yet so exotic to me. Of all the countries I have visited, India, Thailand and Cuba have come closest to feeling like heaven on earth for me. Strangely enough I was told by a clairvoyant as a teenager that photography would be 'my thing' though it wasn't until my 20's on a lone trip - more precisely whilst travelling in the desert in Baha California - that I realised how a shot of a cactus could be made so much more interesting by lying on the ground and experimenting with different angles. Now that I am no longer working full time, and I intend to make more time for both photography and writing.
