Born and raised in a small Iowa town, Cathlin McCullough has spent almost 20 years as a User Experience Designer. She is currently an Austin-based photographer, whose use of natural light gives new life to light and shadow, often creating an additional subject within the frame. Her current focus is on portraiture as well as the playful intersection of color and light, preferring the organic spontaneous effects of natural light.
She is primarily self-taught and finds inspiration in films, nature, soul music, and her own awkward childhood. Her work often alludes to the constant longing that connects us all. She considers herself a storyteller as well as a visual artist, and uses her work for self-reflection and escape. Cathlin was recently named a Photo Lucida Critical Mass Top 50 for her ongoing personal series “The Space Between”. Cathlin is a single mother of two young children, who are often the inspiration and subjects of her work.
