Charles Lee (b. 1983, Honolulu, Hawaii) received his BA in marketing from Bowie State University (2006). In 2015, Lee quit his job in sales and pursued art full-time. He also attended a workshop on darkroom printing and film processing offered by DevTank in Florence, Italy (2018).
Lee works in photography and video, chronicling the Black experience in America as it pertains to identity (self and perceived), history, geographies, representation, family and social inequities.
Lee is currently a freelance photographic artist and lead film processor for Photo Laboratory in Berkeley. His work has been exhibited in Berkeley and San Francisco with a notable group exhibition at Southern Exposure (SF) and a self-produced solo exhibit at The Guerilla Cafe and Gallery. Lee’s work can be found in private collections in California and Louisiana.
