Italian photographer based in Berlin, Chiara was born in the Italian Po valley, studied languages and received a degree in communication sciences at the Università di Bologna with a thesis on German Ostalgie (nostalgia for the former GDR). After working at the archive of the agency VU’ in Paris, she graduated from Berlin’s Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie with her project Wandertage about the traditional German travelling journeywomen. Interested in European and borders issues, she focuses on how individuals and communities deal with past, traditions and collective memories, as well as the influence those have on identities. Mainly approaching her subject matters with empathy and a regard for intimacy, her work is an almost anthropological immersion concerned with the notion of belonging. Chiara exhibited widely around Europe and was awarded several grants and prizes.
