Christian Ugarte is photographer born in Lima, Perú, city in which he actually resides. He studied photo in the Centro de la Imagen, one of the most prestigious schools of his country. His interest in the documentary work started during his lasts year as student, when he had the opportunity of practicing in one of the biggest newspapers of Perú, El Comercio, where still is part of the staff.
His work is the result of a personal approximation to his subjects. He accomplishes that by assuming the role of photographer, but also of participant, letting himself be guided by curiosity. He prefers shooting at night, when the city, the life and also the photography take forms that limit with subjectivity.
Experimenting with other cameras is an essential part of his creation process. With conviction, he affirms that any equipment serves to document. But he also claims that first, the photographer must have a language of his own.
Christian has participated in various collective exhibitions and has won different prices in his country. In 2013, he obtained the second place at the POY Latam, in the Religions category, and in 2014, he won a scholarship at Foundry, which took place in Guatemala.
