French-Australian Christophe Canato lives and works in Perth, Western Australia since 2005. He grew up in a artist family environment where his father was a painter. As a early drawer and painter himself, he successfully entered the Beaux-Arts school at seventeen years of age.
After receiving his DNSEP in 1989 (comparable to a Master degree in Fine Arts) and in 1993 a Diploma of Fashion from the prestigious Institut Français de la Mode (French Fashion Institute), he had drawn on his background in the Paris Fashion industry. Photography became his first tool to express himself as an artist just like in his freelance business.
Christophe’s visual artist career started with his 1997 winner prize of the Paris Salon de la Jeune Création. This artist has extensively exhibited since this period in solo and group exhibitions, in France and in Australia.
Judges Commendation from the 2015 Joondalup Invitation Art Award has been presented to Christophe Canato. He has been the Popular Choice winner of the 2014 City of Joondalup Community Invitation Art Award, 2012 Honorable Mention of the USA IPA Award, 2010 Winner Photographic Prize of the Bassendean Art Award, 2005 Winner Prize of the Town of Vincent Art Award, 2000 Second Prize of the Paris Business & Decision exhibition and 1997 Winner Prize of the Paris Jeune Création art fair.
In 2016 Canato exhibited in solo shows at ION Art Gallery in Singapore and Turner galleries in Perth. In 2014 he had a solo show at Anna Pappas Gallery in Victoria and Queensland Center for Photography. Other recent events include : Pandora’s Box commissioned public artwork for the City of Joondalup and collective exhibition Quiet Moment curated by Susan Hill at Fremantle Art Centre. Co-curator and participating artist of a group show supported by Art On The Move Touring Program, Intimacies has been shown at Vancouver Art Gallery WA, Mandurah Art Gallery WA and Wall Flower Photomedia Gallery NSW.
