I started photographing at seventeen, watching others in the darkroom. I had chosen the wrong path — back then there were no open days, nothing. In my first year of university I asked my mother for a Yashica FX3, for my studies. It wasn't entirely a lie. From there, I started walking.
I have been walking for forty years. First to document, then to search — signs, forms, something. I don't always know what. I recognize it in the silence, when it opens like an abyss.
I look for something that might not be there, in places and signs perhaps never seen, or perhaps just forgotten. In arid mountains, in deserts, in the spaces that Google Maps crosses without looking.
Photography has never been separate from walking. Nor from searching.
