Australian art photographer and minimalist composer Darren Harris uses the mediums of photography and music as a means to explore and express notions of self, perception, and the relation of that self to the environment.
His primary interests are photography, landscape, perception, piano, ambient electronic music, Zen Buddhism, and traditional Chinese and Japanese aesthetics.
Darren recently completed his photographic exhibition and accompanying CD launch: Where The Land Meets The Sea, which ran from 30 June to 10 July 2016 at The Edge, State Library of Queensland, in Brisbane Australia.
Darren’s photographic series 'Illumination' was selected and published in the Photo Compendium Australia 2014.
In 2013, he released a CD of ambient music, Outside of The Light, under the name of Arcane Species, which was a meditative reflection on Darren’s first photographic series ‘Psychological Portraits’, exhibited at the Meyer Gallery, Sydney in 2011.
The series Psychological Portraits was also selected for the Silvershotz Folio 2011. (Silvershotz Journal of Fine Art Photography is a prestigious publication promoting fine art photography world-wide).
Darren self-published his first art photography book 'Absent Dreams: Psychological Portraits, Interior Landscapes' in 2011.
Darren taught photography at Brisbane North Institute of TAFE on a casual basis from 2010.
