I am a doctor. I am also interested in making photographic images of my work. I started as an emergency room physician, and was initially drawn to refugee disasters. I attempted to capture that experience in "Dust to Dust, A Doctor's view of famine in Africa" (Temple University press, 1992). One of the things that was hardest was finding children permanently blind from vitamin A deficiency, and from work in refugee camps I became interested in the problem of blindness. I went back to school and became an ophthalmologist. It's now been over 25 years and numerous projects trying to reduce the number of patients needlessly blind in resource-poor settings. I'm trying to find the right words and images for a book.
