Denise Felkin studied photography on a BA (Honours) Fine Art course at University of Sunderland. Denise was awarded a scholarship to study MA Photojournalism from University of Westminster and in 2014, she graduated with a Distinction. Two of her images The Magician and Conscious were nominated in the Association of Photographers 31st Open Awards 2014. Denise received an Honourable Mention at the International Photography Awards 2014 and 2015, for her series titled I’m Not Voting Because.. . and the series was been published by BBC, The Observer, The Guardian, Huck Magazine in time fot the 2015 UK General Election. She was also nominated for the Magnum Photos Graduate Award 2015.
Her most recent work. Mum's Not The Word was shortlisted in the People category of the Sony World Photography Award in 2016 and exhibited at Somerset House London and Photokina, Cologne. The series a Nominee Award for Photogrvphy Grant 2016 and was a finalist in the 9th Pollux Awards 2016. In July 2017 Mum’s Not The Word was selected as a finalist in the 10th Julia Margaret Cameron Award and will be on show in two separate exhibitions at ValidPhoto Barcelona in September and October 2017, as part of the 9th Pollux Awards and the 10th Julia Margaret Cameron Awards.
