Dennis Neal Vaughn earned an MA in photography from Illinois State University. Raised on a Central Illinois farm, Vaughn lived and worked in Chicago before making San Francisco his home. His work is "A Conversation About Seeing."
"What I love about photography is that I have to be present. Present in the moment, brain engaged, intuition and instinct flowing unedited. Reacting with eyes open. Not hesitating to take the picture. Seeing what is before me as if for the first time. The discovery, the adventure. The beauty in the everyday, the mundane, and elevating it with the photo. To pause and ponder. Linger for a moment, then share.
I grew up on a remote rural farm in Central Illinois. Since then I have lived in Chicago and now call San Francisco my home. I find myself going back and forth between these two worlds. One of nature and landscape and sky and the other of the urban environment. I was fortunate as a kid, basically an only child, in that I had a tree house, and there was a timber with a creek and two ponds where I would spend my summers and the seasons exploring, getting lost in the wonder that is nature. I am blessed to have access to both worlds where I can be a kid again when I need and return back into civilization renewed."
