I am a New York City based freelance artistic and comercial photographer. Originally from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, I discovered my passion for photography shortly after relocating to New York City in 1995. I was offer a assistant position for a fashion photographer, and was really enchanted by the magical process of photography. At this point i had began formal classes on documentary at the International Center of Photography (in the old ICP building on 5ave). One morning i had a dream of going to the magnum agency, so i had breakfast and decide to find out were magnum photos was located, so i took my portfolio and just walk in to ask for a intern position, luckily the person responsible for the hiring was having a coffee at the front desk, she liked me and took me in. My time as a intern extended from 3 months to a year and a few months as a assistant librarian. i had at magnum great friendships and attended amazing parties, it was one of the best years at Magnumphotos and one of the best year of my life. After interning for Magnum Photos, i was inspired by their photographers , wich i got to hang out with and know them personally. All of the sudden i started to accumulate a wealth of stories from those guys, or i should say my "heroes". I saved some money and With few belongings but loaded with Kodachrome films, and my 2 Leicas, i embarked on a six month trip documenting the streets of India. I jumped in the hindu culture and leaned enough Hindi to dive into the most remote Indian rural areas and big cities.
New York was always my home and Brasil was my second home so i decided to keep shooting between those Countries."'I think my photography has a deep relation with my emotions, when i shoot the streets, i am looking for faces, body language, light and shadows, but most of all i am in search for an emotional element to connect with."
Erico currently resides in New York City with his daughter and wife.
