Photographs are rooted to reality, but they convey much more than a glimpse of the moment in time. They allow transforming a thought, a feeling, or an opinion into something to be reflected upon, shared and remembered. By going beyond description, the interaction of light and time can create something more than just its parts. It can merge emotion and aesthetics with concepts that reveal by retaining mystery.
A native of Finland and now living in Sweden, Elina Immonen is a photographer and a biologist. She received her doctorate from the University of St Andrews, UK, and is now an assistant professor at the Uppsala University.
