Farheen Fatima (b. 1994) is an India based photographer and visual artist. At a very early age she started practicing drawing and distinguishes herself thanks to her rebellious and creative mind. Farheen has always been fascinated by images and how the world is represented through the eyes of others. Naturally, she was drawn to photography. The interest was cultivated during her teenage years and further developed when she started making portraits of her friends and acquaintances. That is when she fell in love with portraiture. Her images border on dark but dreamy. There is a certain shroud of mystery in her photographs and she believes each photo has a story or two to tell. She loves things that create echoes. She believes that when you focus on something you can’t see, it all happens in slow motion. Those in between moments when everything happens. For her, it’s all about observing and extracting beauty from everything.
She is a self-taught photographer and that’s why her process is experimental. She pokes around and does not have a preconceived notion of what the outcome of her exploration should be. She engages in these practices precisely to see what is possible and she stays curious about the results.
She is an independent fashion and portrait photographer. Her work has been exhibited in India, Germany, Spain, Hongkong, and the United States. She has been published in Better Photography India Magazine, The Bengaluru Review, Flora Fiction Literary Magazine, The Design Collective Magazine, Vogue Italia Photo Vogue, Inspiro India Magazine among others.
