Born in Genoa (Italy) in 1989, Federico Imperiale is a photographer currently based in Los Angeles.
While working as filmmaker and composer, he deepened his studies in photography under Italian photographer Giovanni Chiaramonte at the IULM University of Milan in 2012, a crucial encounter for Federico’s understanding of his profound affinity with this art form.
Chiaramonte introduced him to the work of masters of photography such as Minor White and Duane Michals and revealed photography to him as a unique discipline of merging between classic and modern art and a revolutionary medium for the expression of thought.
Federico developed his vision and the fundamentals of his practice on this basis, aiming to visualize the invisible aspects of reality and thus producing an access to a more revelatory figuration of the world.
Moving to the US in 2017 gave him the possibility to confront a wider professional and artistic panorama and further develop his creative perspective.
Throughout the years Federico’s work has been included in numerous national and international exhibitions and he has received increasing recognition, including three nominations at the 2019 Fine Arts Photography Awards and two Honorable mentions at the 2020 International Photography Awards. Recently he won the Film Stills category at the Still Awards 2020.
