Felicia Byron was born in Toronto, Canada to a British/Jamaican immigrant mother and a Kittian (St. Kitts and Nevis) immigrant father. She has studied Photography at the Ontario College of Art and Design. With her photography, Felicia seeks to shed light on the plights of the unheard and ignored, while also exploring the culture of her ancestors. Spending her most crucial years growing up in rural Nova Scotia, Felicia spent her post secondary career at OCAD discovering her voice as a black female contemporary artist and photographer. Since then, Felicia’s photographic career highlights include: An interactive exhibit where the viewer becomes the subject as a part of Bcurrent’s Rock Paper Sistahz Festival 10, House Photography for Current from (2009-2015), and work produced exclusively for Latidos Magazine and BOLD magazine. Her work for BOLD and Latidos include Latidos magazine's 'Movers and Shakers' spotlight on Cuban-Canadian singer/songwriter and Latin Grammy Winner Alex Cuba (Latidos 2009) and BOLD magazine summer 2012 cover story of Juno Award winner singer/songwriter Kreesha Turner.
Felicia hopes inspire, question and uncover with the work she produces and ultimately blur the lines between editorial photography and contemporary photo-based art.
