Gabriel thinks of himself first and foremost as a filmmaker. He studied film at Oberlin college and works primarily as a cinematographer and a video editor. However, photography has always been close to his heart. It greatly informs his filmmaking and vice versa.
As a photographer, he spends a lot of time thinking about the intersection between still and moving images, about their relative strengths and weaknesses as narrative mediums, about the kinds of space each can provide for their viewers. But he also believes that his thoughts about his pictures are not as interesting as the pictures themselves.
