About Guillaume Fandel

34 years old, French, living in Paris, France.

I've discovered photography during my graphic design studies in fine art school. Since then, i've spent many hours in darkroom and kept shooting, mostly landscapes.

After spending about 2 years in Canada, i discovered commercial photography by assisting fashion photographers and now still life photographers in Paris

I've been awarded as a 'SFR young talent' in Paris Photo 2010 for my serie 'U44U' which portrayed young Hip Hop dancers in a old abandonned steel factory.
I did few exhibition in France and Belgium, mostly showing my serie entitled 'Noordzee' about North sea coast.

I have interests for the landscape at his 'Edge', his fringe, his limits; where spaces become vague, sometimes unsettled, and where our relation with Nature has became ambiguous; a certain kind of undisciplined shape/form of landscape; some 'in between' places, born with the partitions of cities and countryside.
Territory sometime still appears like blank and his representation goes hand in hand with traveling and the quest of the place, the light and the colours.
As a painting, my photographs would offer a meditative contemplation, and build the backgrounds of an imaginary scene rather than her story. However, i try to be careful to avoid any suggestion of the picturesque and sentimental. I try to objectify the view that was offered, by revealing strangeness and fascination, and finally propose a 'landEscape'.
The play with lines and horizon(s) (what could be so abstract and 'real' in the same time?) combine with polyptychs, technique of the framing and juxtaposition of pictures gives the opportunity to transform Places and mix several distinctive time and space. It's a way to appropriate the landscape in order to share a dream and allow a momentary journey at the limits of an impossible earth but build with picture of the 'Real'.
