I love to daydream and I like to meander. By nature, I am slow. It has taken time to accept this about myself. While others moved quickly making incredible photos, I struggled to keep up. I worried that I was missing things. I became frustrated with my photos and myself. Then, one especially hot day in Oaxaca, when no one was moving quickly, I embraced my slowness. Almost immediately wonderful opportunities presented themselves. Slowing down and being my genuine self allowed me to connect with people in a way that made them feel safe and respected. Being able to capture a shared moment of amusement, or one of tenderness and acceptance, is what I seek to show in my photography. It’s what inspires me. It’s why I embrace the slow.
