I was born in a small town in a harsh mountain region of Orava in the north of Slovakia, just months after the fall of communism and onset of capitalism. Seeing the results of this painful transition I decided to leave my country for good, moving first to Prague during university studies of physics and medicine, then to Amsterdam for work as a programmer.
My interest in photography started with a discovery of an old soviet analog camera in my late grandfather's closet. This old camera had an unexpected effect – its presence would open people up and bring back old memories and stories of times long gone and with them photos that would always remind me of these conversations. And although as time went by I discovered more kinds of photography I enjoy, its role as a diary of interesting encounters will always remain central to me.
