About Javier Carrasquillo

Javier Carrasquillo is a photographer and video artist whose work explores how light can communicate themes of mysticism, existentialism, and religion while also documenting social marginalization. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, he received his BA in Fine Arts with a specialization in Art History and Photography from the University of Puerto Rico, where he later taught courses in Audiovisual Communication. He has also worked as a teaching artist in various art workshops and as a photojournalist in diverse media outlets on the island. His work has been exhibited in various museums and galleries in his homeland, and is held in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Juan. He currently lives and works in Chicago, Illinois.
