GUAN-LIN(Jefferson), LI is a Sydney based art student who is studying Bachelor of fine art at the Sydney College of Art. He is a cross-disciplinary artist working with Photography, painting and sculpture. He is interested in the psychology of consciousness, discovering the state of mind in his practice, his work express emotional feelings such as anxiety, humor and happiness.
For him, street photography is a medium to engage with people and learn from others. By taking portraits of people he started to understand the subject as well as himself. He believes photography support a spoken language. A word could express feelings, but an image could express the unconscious of a person. As he said, the unconscious is the most original state of mind. He finds observing others is unconsciously looking into himself, probing into observational and self-referential.
Over the 100 days in lockdown, he photographed street scene in Sydney where lockdown has changed people’s life dramatically. He started to understand the profound impact of isolation, people become depressed. With a sense of humor in his work; using those image to amplify positive energy in this difficult time.
His still life images depicted distortion of vision, when stressed fulfill the mind, thoughts started to distort, objects starts to look different.
