Jelle IJntema (1974) is an artist who aims to make you pause and reflect on the beauty of life, the versatility of human nature, and how experiences and emotions, like ourselves, deserve a place to call home. To allow the audience to experience and feel this, he uses various techniques: from self-portraits to landscape photographs, from sound recordings, soundscapes, and compositions to songs, from notes to poems, and from photos, videos, and 3D to spatial work. This results in short, focused series and rich, immersive experiences.
In his work, he consciously plays with his presence and absence, partly due to his own journey through life, but also to create space for the viewer to contemplate their own experiences and emotions. In doing so, he dares to make himself vulnerable as both a person and a creator, offering you a literal and figurative glimpse into his world. Notably, great care has been taken in considering how the viewer perceives this glimpse. He not only wants to show how you can make painful and beautiful emotions visible and experience them, but also how connecting between yourself and those emotions is an important task and part of life itself.
