Based out of Marfa, Texas, Jessica Lutz documents life in the Chihuahuan Desert on both sides of the border. Her work has led her on a month-long expedition down the Rio Grande for the Texas Tribune, where she and the project leader sent reports out daily using a satellite phone while canoeing 200 miles through one of the most remote sections of the Rio Grande. She has documented numerous expeditions along the border, and reported on these expeditions and other border stories on Marfa Public Radio, an affiliate of National Public Radio, where Lutz has also served as a local radio host for MPR’s All Things Considered. Her work documenting the border was featured in Texas Monthly and the New York Times. Additional coverage of the region can be seen in Al Jazeera, Mother Jones, Texas Architect among the publications.
