Joanne Scherf was born a visual explorer. With a Kodak Brownie camera in hand she was the official family documentarian of mid-western life. A recreational photographer until a life-changing event at age 50 ignited the spark to live her creative dream. Primarily self-taught, plus with college courses and professional workshops, Joanne stretched her creative muscle and earned awards, publication features, and exhibits on the national and international scene.
Joanne has recently taken on new creative challenges with an iPhone. Her impetus for this portfolio began when she observed a design performance of master glass blowers and wondered how to apply those same principles to photography. Joanne’s process takes a traditional image capture and through multiple apps mimics the glassblower’s technique to literally swirl, twist and shape the image until it reaches her final abstract vision. "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeing new sights, but in looking with new eyes."
