Julia Murillo (b. 1986) is a Costa Rican photographer based in San José.
She studied the BA in photography at the Veritas University in San Jose. During her career she has been in workshops with renowned photographers and artists like Walterio Iraheta and Meir Gal, as well as workshops with curators as Juan Antonio Molina and Anne-Marie Melster.
From the confrontation between two visions, one documentary and one merely subjective, she makes her works, which oscillate, in a constant interaction between the "inside" and the "outside". With an affinity for the portrait, each of her works includes a focus on the intensity of the relationship established between the photographer and the person photographed.
In 2013 she was part of the show The Story of Creative in New York. In 2012 a sample of her work was exhibited in several group exhibitions, Valoarte in Costa Rica, Festival Cervantino in Mexico and Esfoto 12 in Salvador. She was selected for Trasatlántica PHE 2012 (Photo Spain) and received three honorable mentions in the categories of: self-portrait, portrait and photo essay in the International Photography Awards, organized in Los Angeles California.
She currently works as a freelance photographer and teacher of photography workshops. At the same time she works on photographic projects independently and accept assignments throughout Latin America.
