I believe that photography can be a powerful tool in passing on knowledge and sparking interest in subjects. Particularly difficult issues which the world would rather forget. Images bring a subject to life and create a bridge of empathy with alternate realities. I have a particular love of street photography and portraiture. In South Africa I am drawn to the homeless and life within townships and informal settlements - where days are hard and violent and filled with tragedy. But life continues on. Babies are born, lovers discover each other, families grow and disintegrate and death is eventually inevitable. Lives are the same the world over. And yet they are completely different.
