About Katja Volkenant
Freelance Photographer based in Berlin.
My profession is community organizing. Through working on the streets with youngsters in marginalized neighborhoods in Berlin and Jerusalem, I learned how to observe urban space and people without bothering them. To observe urban spaces in a participatory way, you become a part of the space. By doing so, I discovered my passion for photography by experiencing it, having the wish to save images of fading spaces and the present of humans expressions in space. I´m passionate about street photography, social documentary and I practiced band photography (for the "The Silky Squirrles") and theatre photography for some self organized theatre groups in Berlin, Hebron and Ramallah. Photography, for me is a tool to balance between being close to people for the moment the photo is taken, the following moment can be distanced and focused on surprises which come along the paths- the stages of life - where everything flows.
