Katri Lassila (MA) works with analogue photographic techniques and prints each of her silver gelatine photographs by hand in darkroom. The close sense of the material gives her works a unique aura of craft, contact and intimacy, exceptional in this digital age. Lassila is currently giving finishing touches for her practice based dissertation for the Department of Cinema in the Aalto University. In her dissertation, Lassila studies conceptual and poetic aspects of landscape imagery in film and photography.
In the essence of Lassila's work is encountering other cultures, other landscapes and other people in delicate and humble spirit. The world seems to open up for her effortlessly, and during the twenty years she's been able to capture a glimpse of the world which is rarely seen otherwise.
