‘I can be enormously touched by things I see. Bewildered by beauty. The beauty of people or the way the light falls. Trying to capture all this in a stationary image almost feels like solving a puzzle.’
Photographer Katrijn Van Giel started working for Belgian newspaper De Standaard when she was 20 years old and still on school. Nowadays she still works for De Standaard, but also for Nrc Handelsblad (NL) and many other magazines . In 2011 she won the Nikon press picture for most promising photographer of Belgium with pictures she made from the floods in Pakistan and the earthquake in Haïti. In 2017 she won best Belgian photographer with the sony world photogahy awards.
