Kelly Freedman is a photographer and visual artist based in San Francisco, working in the mediums of photography, sculpture and digital arts. She was born in Beijing to parents who were medical students. And emigrated to the United States as a child.
Years later, Kelly returned to China to travel and photograph, documenting rural life in the Chinese countryside. Gradually, her work started to move toward multimedia, concentrating on themes such as control and the mind. Her work has been published in China Daily News, Time Out Beijing, SFWeekly and SF Examiner. Kelly has also collaborated with artists such as , Dub Gabriel, producing mixing video and electronic music pieces. She has been the recipient of the Barbara Stewart Photographic Award and most recently, she has been awarded the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund Award for the Visual Arts.
