About Jong Hyun Kim
I create visual images, exploring, and experimenting with the nature of photography as medium. My work questions the objectivity of the photograph as document and the objectivity of our vision as measure of reality, and explores the creative potential of photography which blurs the boundary between document and art, the real and the imaginary.
Through the camera I capture those moments of transformation when a shapeless mass suddenly takes on a highly suggestive form. Also, inspired by visual experiments in the tradition of painting, I take apart an image into basic elements (pixel, point, line, plane, cube, and color), and reconstruct them into a series of new compositions. Through my work, I intend to expand the parameters of photography as creative medium, examining the contingency, and the complexity of a photographic image, and various ways it mediates our perception and conception.
