Leonardo Costa Braga was born in 1973 in Brasília and now lives in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
In the last twenty years he has lived in several regions in Brazil as well as in other countries, dealing with a variety of cultural and social realities. That lead him to choose to appropriate from the artistic languages to communicate to the world. Being a self-educated artist, Leonardo works with contemporary art developing projects about mankind relations with itself and with the environment.
He was awarded with three of the major awards in Brazil for his works in photography, video and book project. Funarte’s National Visual Arts Award, 2014, Brazil Contemporary Art Award of the Cultural Ministry, 2010, Pierre Verger National Photography Award, 2009. In the last years he has exhibited his works in several art galleries in Brazil, such as Baró Gallery, in São Paulo, HAP Gallery, in Rio de Janeiro, Quadrum Gallery in Belo Horizonte. He has been part in collective exhibitions in Modern Art Museum of Bahia, in Arts Palace in Belo Horizonte, in Sesc Belenzinho Cultural Center in São Paulo, Northeast Bank’s Cultural Centerin Ceará, Paraty’s International Photography Festival, to name a few. He has exhibited some of his works abroad in Photopub Eslovenia, The New life Berlim Festival, Gallery Shop in Germany, Uruguay’s Photography Center. He is part in the Book 00 Generation – The new Brazilian Photography, curated by Eder Chiodetto, and recently released his first book: Magic Eye – Photography, Blindness and Science.
