I discovered I wanted to be an artist from an early age. Even though I could not afford a camera until I joined the Navy in 1969, and discovered Camera 35 magazine, along with other publications of the time. I found the works of all the other great artists of photography such as Stieglitz, Man Ray, White, Gibson, and Michals. I knew I wanted to use the camera not just for monetary gain, but for true creative expression. I graduated from Massey College in Atlanta with a B.A. in photography. While studying there, I met my wife, Becky, and we married and settled in Washington D.C. in 1975.
