Born in Santiago(RS), Brazil, in 1946, photojournalist during 41 years. Has lived and worked in Porto Alegre since 1968, the date when he entered University to study Chemistry. Worked at the Judicial Insane Asylum, and started photographing the patients. Quitted the Chemistry course when to focus on photography, that he used as instrument of social and human approach. Worked as photojournalist, employed or free lancer, in local papers or magazines and in other states of Brazil. He was one the founders of Point of View agency (1978), that published two photo books: “Saint Soya” and “Point of View – A Photographic Testimony”, which also engendered a series of exhibitions. Coordinated the Photographic Department of the State. Participaded the I Exhibition of Contemporary LatinAmerican Photography (Mexico, 1978) and of the Venezia’79 La Fotografia (Venice, 1979). His essay “The Fight by the Land in the South of Brazil” was finalist in the Casa de las Americas Contest (Cuba, 1995). Has photographs in the collections of Cuba Aidée Santamaria, Joaquim Paiva, Curitiba City Photographic Museum and São Paulo Art Museum(MASP/PIRELLI). Winner of the 1º Photographic Gaucho Prize (2003), with a documentary project about the borderline between Brazil and Uruguay, and winner of the prize Leica-Agfa P&B “My City, My People”. Had presentation in TV-series about Brazilian photographers (FotoemCena) on the Brazil Channel. Created his own agency – “a Documental” – and keeps developing personal projects in the documentary photography area.
