Lyndsey Kamide grew up in FL, received her BFA in photography from Pratt Institute in 2016 in NY, where she currently lives and works as a photographer for hire while maintaining a studio practice.
Kamides' work is often founded on a personal narrative but aims to allow viewers to enter and find something of their own in it. Motivated by a need to reinterpret experiences by building a pictorial archive housing a fascination in identity and the dream-like phenomena of the physical world. Her images straddle the line between comedic and tragic themes, a rendered balancing act between reverie and realism.
With an ability to appreciate complex emotional and aesthetic influences, her work is saturated with character and color. Combining her own experiences with her subjects’ personality to imbue the work with its own autonomous identity. Her work explores the intimacy in the relationship to oneself as well as to others, merging boundaries of portraiture, still life, and landscape.
