I am a photographer living in Dublin. I took my first photo when I was nine after getting a camera one Christmas. I don't remember asking for one but being a very quiet kid that would sit for hours looking through our family albums must have had something to do with it.
Holding these time-travelling pieces of paper to see what your granny looked like when she was young, seeing your parents as kids or what part of the city looked like, pretty much blew my little mind then. It makes me go somewhere and look a bit further around the corner or change up the way I walk home. There are conversations, encounters with people that are so vivid and surreal that may have not occurred only for I was looking for something with the camera and it found me, I found it, or a bit of both. It's these times I really cherish as it keeps that childlike curiosity about the world alive. If I didn't have photography I would be lost, or more so it makes feeling lost the only way to be.
