Manuel Osterholt is an artist, living in Berlin, Germany.
He was born 1976 in Heidelberg, to german/greek parents, on a beautiful hillside street called philosophers path.
Overviewing the university town and its world-famous castle ruins.
One can just wonder why he needed to see the world from a different perspective.
His interest in humans, living on top of each other, brought him already to some very diverse places on this planet.
From Buenos Aires to Johannesburg, from Guangzhou to New York City, from Moscow to Shenzhen, from São Paulo to Tokyo…
you get the picture.
Mainly self taught in painting, he decided it was a good idea, from a very young age on, to bring his artistic vision to the world.
Spray cans might have been involved. Becoming part of a place and reading the atmosphere was crucial in this context.
The school of observing the cityscape and its habitant came handy to him, when he started to realize the joy of photography.
Foreseeing things happening and the emotional reaction of a well caught moment. Capturing the absurd on eye level. The everyday magic.
Shooting with the heart to answer untold questions. Getting to know a place and its inhabitants by walking and watching.
Walking, to keep the mind at ease. Watching, to keep it alert.
Osterholt sees his photographic practice mainly in the field of observing and reacting to it, in a well spirited way.
With the emphasis to humanistic values and the reflection of the questions arising between the inside and the outside world.
