Born in Zaragoza (Spain) in 1985, María Abenia worked as an Elementary teacher for eight years before she decided to quit and buy her first camera. After a period of long traveling, she moved to Madrid and enrolled in a Documentary Photography program at Blankpaper School. After finishing those studies, she moved to Barcelona and joined in a postgraduate study on Filmmaking at ESCAC. Once it was completed, she continued her studies with a Film and Audiovisual Theory master´s degree at Pompeu Fabra University, also in the city of Barcelona.
At present, María works as a photographer, film director and occasional screenwriter.
